Somewhere in Scotland Jan Burnett bought a four track and that is when his troubles began... Spare Snare was formed in 92 as a solo project , Jan released the four track version of "As a Matter of Fact/ Super Slinky " as a 7" single on his own Chute records as a limited edition of 100 copies, of those 100 copies 5 went to record labels, When Prospective's John Kass heard it he said " Oy Gavult ,that boy is mashugana" and then released it as a prospective single, and it became the highest selling single in prospective history.

Jan formed the band originally so that Spare Snare could tour the USA , but in the meantime Chute recorded Thorns , with a whole band ,which became a firm favorite on BBC radio Ones Evening Session. Spare Snare then spent a few weeks touring the US gaining fans in MPLS, Chicago, Detroit , Boston and at the CMJ new music seminar as well as gaining an appreciation of American fast food restaurants and truck stop washrooms.

After their tour the band became a more permanent arrangement, and at the start of 1995 a Peel session for BBC radio 1.By February 1995 Spare Snare became the first band to sign to Deceptive Records publishing arm, Deceptive Music allowing them to record and release their debut CD. Live at Home on Chute Records , and Spare Snare on prospective. How are the records different you ask? well besides different artwork, and the fact that you cant get the Chute version in North America, we have 9:00 glorious minutes of extra bonus tracks, I would tell you more , but they would put some sort of curse on me if I did (It a Scottish thing)

In the meantime CHE records in London asked Spare Snare to put a track on their first singles club release, Jan did a version of Split Enzs/Neil Finns "I Got You" and this was released at the end of March 95 ,There is also a single out in the UK on Lovetrain featuring a different mix of Bugs, and at the start of April 100 guitar Mania released a Compilation of Spare Snares first three singles, and some other miscellaneous lo fi stuff. an article in the top Japanese alternative magazine Superdeformed World put Spare Snare as one of their brightest hopes for 95. and speaking of bright hopes,in Jan 96 look for a new single from prospective Featuring live versions (recorded right her in Minneapolis on 770 Radio K) of Bugs and Wired for Sound.

their Debut album, Live at Home(UK), and Spare Snare in the US. (the UK version is on CHUTE records while the American version is on Prospective /TRG distributed by ADA) is now available so what are you waiting for
