Bryan Hanna (The Hang Ups) - drums, vocals
Jason Orris (Polara) - vocals, guitar
Tal Tahir (King Can, 12 Rods) - vocals, bass
It all started a little over a year ago. Rumors were flying in
the Twin Cities about a new supergroup. The Hot pooled the talents of three
Minneapolis musical celebrities: Bryan Hanna, Jason Orris and Tal Tahir.
Guitar duties would be handled by Orris, who had been Polara's
bassist and The High Wires' guitarist. Hanna had played drums
previously for The Hang Ups and Legendary Jim Ruiz. Bassist Tal Tahir's
resume included a few left-of-center bands and projects; he founded King
Can, was the bassist for 12 Rods, and caused a stir in Minneapolis in 1998
with a SOLO PROJECT.
So The Hot were born. Local music writers were asking to hear material as
soon as humanly possible, and were reviewing demos before the band had even
played live. The band played its first live set EVER at 1998's CMJ Music
Festival. Their first hometown show was sold out; so was the second, and
the third...
Not merely musicians, both Hanna and Orris are considered to be among the
best producers in the region. Hanna has acted as producer and/or engineer
on recordings by The Hang Ups and Papas Fritas, as well as that other
Minnesota ubergroup Golden Smog. Meanwhile, Orris produced or
engineered albums for Soul Asylum, the Jayhawks, Polara, Love-cars and
Happy Apple, amongst others.
Not For Sale contains three remixed tracks from the original demo package,
plus three new tracks recorded in the first half of 1999. All six tracks
were produced by the band at the Terrarium, Orris' professional recording
studio in Minneapolis' warehouse district.
