LOVE-CARS RETURN FROM CMJ, ENTER ALTERNATE UNIVERSE

Fresh from a November 7th showcase at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, members of Love-cars plotted a direct course back to their native Twin Cities, only to find themselves mysteriously transported to a bizarre, not-quite-parallel otherworld. The election of Jesse Ventura as Minnesota governor, the injury of Vikings quarterback Randall Cunningham, and the continued popularity of swing dancing are just a few of the impossible oddities that mark this maddening alternate universe.

Vocalist James Diers, who braved the midnight to 5 a.m. shift behind the wheel of a sturdy Ford Econoline, theorizes that the dimensional crossover occurred somewhere near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border. "I remember a bunch of weird flickering lights and some kind of humming sound," he says. "But it was late, and we were listening to the new Aphex Twin, and I'd just downed my fifth can of Tahitian Treat, so I didn't think much of it at the time."

The band will make every attempt to promptly cross back into the proper time-space continuum so as not to miss two upcoming shows: Wednesday, November 18 at Bryant-Lake Bowl, and Friday, November 20 at the Turf Club.
